ITC plans retreat over unbundling
Article Abstract:
The Independent Television Commission (ITC) is reportedly planning to back down on some of its proposal to unbundle cable and satellite television packages. The ITC's issuance of a consultative paper about the solutions to what the commission termed as "anti-competitive channel bundling practices" has raised concerns that moving ahead with plans to unbundle would have immediate impact and result in the disintegration of several niche cable and satellite channels. The ITC is believed to be ready to inform cable and satellite operators that current distribution and carriage contracts will be permitted to run through 2000 but that the commission is still bent on moving ahead with the proposed unbundling strategy.

ITC decides upon carriage deal ban
Article Abstract:
Satellite and cable channels' minimum carriage requirements have been banned by the Independent Television Commission under its new promulgated rules. The minimum carriage requirements implemented by satellite and cable channels necessitate the purchase of large channel bundles by clients to avail of the channels' premium service offerings. The Independent Television Commission's ruling came after operators, such as Channel One and Live TV, gave threats of legal action and protested against the satellite- and cable-channel carriage requirements.
