Joint UK-US productions spawned by work of Itel

Itel has arranged several television co-production agreements between US broadcasters and UK producers. The UK-based distributor brokered a total of 20 hours of new documentary and natural history shows, through its Los Angeles office in California. The programs include An Animal's World, a series comprising three shows of 60 minutes each, which will be co-produced by the Discovery Channel and Wall to Wall; Jurassic Shark, a co-production of Discovery Channel US and United Productions' natural history unit Survival, encompassing three films of 60 minutes each; Natural Born Wonders, a co-production of PBS and Wall to Wall, comprising six programs of 60 minutes each; and Survivor II, a co-production of The Learning Channel and United Productions, comprising four 60-minute shows.

Itel sets up new divisions

Itel, a film distribution company based in UK, has announced it will form formats and sports divisions and at the same time create a new entertainment unit by expanding its licensing and merchandising business. Jane Millichip, who serves as Itel's sales manager in the UK and in all French speaking territories and South Africa, will lead the format division, which will be responsible for acquiring format rights via existing relationships and new alliances with UK producers. The sports division, on the other hand, will take advantage of the growing interest in alternative sports such as Gaelic football, canoeing, climbing and white water rafting.

Itel strikes drama deals
Article Abstract:
Itel has completed marketing efforts in seven regional territories for the drama series, Hornblower, in the first two days of the Mipcom programming market. The flagship ITV drama, encompassing four shows of 120 minutes each, has been produced by United Productions, in conjunction with A&E. Aside from being licensed to the pay-TV firm Wizja TV of Poland, the series has been sold to six terrestrial broadcasters, including Australia's Seven Network; TVP of Poland; Sweden's SVT; CYBC of Cyprus; Denmark's DRVT; and TVNZ in New Zealand.
