Parodies
Article Abstract:
There is no clear-cut answer to the controversy over the legality of parodies of popular songs. While the Supreme Court permits the practice as long as the crux of the original song is not used, the amount that can be used is a relative issue. When a parody is written and sold on records, it must be mentioned that it is a parody. A parody produced by an employee of a station belongs to the station and the latter is liable for it. It is in the interest of the station to have a clear agreement with its employees over the rights to parodies.
