Pearson moves into sport with Patience

Pearson Television has set plans for a new division catering to sports programs after a review of digital broadcasting sector showed sports as one of the biggest areas for growth. The division will act as an independent production unit with initial focus on sports entertainment and features and will be headed by Bob Patience, a 35-year veteran in sports reporting and owner of Patience Productions, an independent producer of sports programs. Patience, as head of sports production, will report to Mike Southgate, chief executive of TV operations, upon effectivity of the appointment on Dec. 1, 1998.

Channel X Company Director and Executive Producer Alan Marke is known for his work on comedy programs particularly with the comedians Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. Marke is planning to produce television programs for the major stations, BBC1 and ITV, following his success at Channel 4 and BBC2. Channel X was launched in 1986 by Marke in partnership with the Entertainer Jonathan Ross who left the company in 1994. Channel X has successfully undergone a period of restructuring to reduce costs. Marke produced the award winning show Shooting Stars.

All Out Productions lands contract to produce docs for Radio 5 Live
Article Abstract:
All Out Productions has won a contract to produce 20 30-minute documentary programs from BBC Radio 5 Live (R5). BBC Radio 5 Live intends to air the shows on its Sunday documentary slot, during lunchtime, from 1999 to year 2000. The documentary programs will constitute almost half of the Sunday lunchtime schedule with the rest to be provided by 21 shows from the BBC news and current affairs and eight from the BBC Belfast. All Out Productions, which has worked with R5 for nearly five years already, plans to use new voices to Radio 5.
