Quantel picks up GBP5 m ITN contract

Quantel has secured a contract valued at over 5 million sterling pounds to jointly provide an electronic news production system using a server with OmniBus Systems to ITN. Quantel allowed its Inspiration news and sports production system to be used as the model for the new system. ITN director of technology Ted Taylor credited Quantel for having provided the flexibility of server technology featuring an easy-to-learn intuitive interface and an advanced browse function. ITN had to do research for the past three years prior to selecting Inspiration.

Savage Planet wins peaktime slot on ITV
Article Abstract:
ITV controller of documentaries, features and arts, Grant Mansfield, has commissioned for the latest Savage series, the Savage Planet, from Granada Television. Savage Planet, which will take the form of an 8 x 30-minute show, will be aired on a peaktime slot during week nights starting late 1999. The other Savage series, entitled Savage Seas, will be aired on a night slot starting early 1999. The commissioning of the Savage series reflects the company's commitment to popular science programming.
