Reform characters
Article Abstract:
Italy's president, Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, has a mission to make Italian broadcasters provide equal treatment on television news and current affair programmes for all political parties. State broadcaster RAI is in the midst of the controversy and it is claimed by the mainly left-wing unions that the public service broadcaster's governing body is resisting reform. RAI journalists are campaigning for the removal of RAI's governors. Ex-prime minister Silvio Berlusconi controls the news and political bias on three national commercial networks that he owns and also has a degree of control over RAI's three national networks.
