The commercial fishery of the Peruvian Amazon
Article Abstract:
Increased population growth and adoption of more technologically advanced fishing equipment by the commercial fleet has raised concerns about the sustainablility of fish stocks in the Peruvian Amazon. The commercial fishery, which has led to overfishing in the Peruvian Amazon, has to be controlled by stringent enforcement of management regulations and by developing an ecologically and genetically sound nature-species aquaculture program.

A questionnaire concerning human visitation at public fish hatcheries in the United States and Canada was distributed in 2001 and 2002. It was observed that hatchery visitation was significantly and positively correlated with fishing license sales and total population from each state or province and that visitation practices and policies varied greatly, except in some of the states with mandated uniform visitation policies.
