The making of ... epic BBC 2 history of Israel and the Arabs
Article Abstract:
The British Broadcasting Corporation Ltd (BBC) Channel 2 production of 'Israel and the Arabs - 50 Years of Conflict' has been costly to produce, with each of the six episodes costing around 400,000 pounds sterling. Each episode has cost the BBC between 50,000-100,000 pounds sterling over budget. The producers had difficulty in obtaining interviews with various people involved in the program. The US ambassador in Syria helped them gain an interview with the Syrian Prime Minister. The project took 24 months to complete. The first program is due to be shown, in the UK, on Mar. 15, 1998.

A journey to find the CIA agent who inspired Apocalypse Now's Kurtz
Article Abstract:
Soma Films and On the Bus Productions encountered significant challenges during the making of 'The Search for Kurtz' for Channel 4. This programme, which stemmed from the possibility that Brando's character in 'Apocalypse Now' was based on a CIA agent, was initially rejected several times. Once permission was obtained, it was necessary to film in Thailand and Laos, where many bureaucratic difficulties had to be overcome. It was finally possible to track down 'Kurtz,' whose real name proved to be Tony Poe.

Article Abstract:
The work of animators is generally very undervalued in the UK. Even if animated films are broadcast on television, they are usually shown at times when very few people will be watching, and there is little public interest in the fact that UK animators have won a considerable number of Oscars. There is a great deal of talent in the animation industry, but animation as an art form is currently in chaos. This has been partly the result of the more extensive use of computers.
