Crunch time
Article Abstract:
Speculation has been renewed that failing cable and satellite TV channels may be axed because of the lack of analogue capacity. BSkyB has confirmed that it is closing its Sky 2 entertainment channel at the end of August 1997 because there is not enough room for it to launch its National Geographic Channel planned for Sep 1, 1997. Granada Sky Broadcasting is axing its Talk TV channel, which will be replaced by sports channel Sports Club. The advent of digital TV is said to be driving the reorganisation of the analogue sector.

The politics of taste
Article Abstract:
The UK's Broadcasting Complaints Commission (BCC) and Broadcasting Standards Council (BSC) are set to merge in Apr 1997 under the terms of the Broadcasting Bill. Most observers have welcomed this move, believing that it is best to reduce the number of regulatory bodies in operation. However, it may be that the two organisations cause more harm as a united body than they did when they were separate. Both have received considerable criticism, and some people feel that they should both be abolished altogether.
