A new Afghanistan? Exploring the Iraqi jihadist training ground
Article Abstract:
Iraq is often referred to as 'the new Afghanistan' due to its apparent status as a military training ground. Although it is true that exposure to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's violent ideology has developed jihad and jihadist training in Iraq, and it is a complex and very demanding environment with a potential to create particularly capable fighters, Iraq is a unique environment and some of the skills and techniques learnt there by the jihadist might not work in other countries.

Iraq elections set conditions for summer of discontent
Article Abstract:
The elections in Iraq have set in motion a process of intense political dialogue and violent brinkmanship that is likely to last throughout 2005, even though they did not produce harmful scenarios predicted by many analysts. The Iraqi Transitional Government (ITG), the first Iraqi government to rise and fall on the success of the cross-sectarian coalition politics, might result in a slow-moving consensus-based government, prone to deadlock, inertia and procrastination.

Article Abstract:
The political factors affecting Iraq in 2007 are assessed by using various scenarios depending on the strengths and weaknesses of the central government. It is predicted that Iraq might cease to resemble a nation state with a catastrophic and sudden collapse of the government and might descend into multi-factional civil war aggravated by regional powers.
