Bright outlook for UAVs, but costs must be controlled
Article Abstract:
U.S. military's unprecedented reliance on unmanned vehicles during recent operations left the services with the urge to buy more systems, however procurement of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) alone will account for more than $3 billion in the annual military budget by 2010. The Pentagon has a plan and a budget to field several new systems but it also needs to devise a strategy for keeping costs down and reliability rates high.

Innovation center opens doors to network-centric research
Article Abstract:
Lockheed Martin's Center for Innovation is slated to create new operational concepts and net-centric solutions. Focus of the center is its experimentation capabilities for joint operations and additionally it houses currently used equipment and weapons in a homeland defense and security laboratory for scientists to experiment with using them in different ways.

Extending the MILES
Article Abstract:
The U.S. Army placed a five-year, $113 million award with Cubic Corporation for an enhanced version of the Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) weapons trainer. MILES uses laser technology to give soldiers real-time feedback on weapon engagements and casualties.
