Presidnet George W. Bush is comitted to pursuing a ballistic missile defense system, and his administration is attempting to address any apprehensions that European allies might have. These apprehensions, and other phases of the planned system, are discussed.

A US military presence in Asia: offshore balancer or local sheriff?

The United States, since the end of the cold war, has maintained approximately 100,000 troops in Asia. There is little organized opposition to this military presence in the US, but opposition from the various Asian regions may arise.
