Final River-class OPVs roll off line as Vosper closes Woolston Yard
Article Abstract:
Vosper Thornycroft Ltd. delivered the Final River-class offshore patrol vessels (OPVs), which were built at Vosper Thornycroft's Woolston Yard, to the Royal Navy in 2003. Woolston Yard, which was established in 1907, will be closing down after nearly 100 years of building ships for the Royal Navy and Vosper's main shipbuilding facility will be at Portsmouth Naval Base.

Iraqi Navy to receive Saddam-era corvettes from Italian firm
Article Abstract:
Italy will be releasing two Assad-class corvettes, which were built by Fincantieri SpA for Iraq in the 1980s, to the Iraqi Navy and it has also agreed to begin training the Iraqi crews in order to transfer the ships. The two Assad-class corvettes are the remnants of the six-ship deal between former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and Fincantieri SpA in 1981.

Viking submarine program moves forward
Article Abstract:
The Kockums Naval Systems, which is owned by Germany's HDW, has signed a contract with the Swedish Defense Material Administration on 6 October 2003 for the next phase of the Viking submarine project. The Mexican Navy has signed a contract with Eurocopter on 13 October 2003 to buy two AS 565 Panther Helicopters (Dauphin).
