Fire Scout makes first autonomous shipboard landings
Article Abstract:
The RQ-8A Fire Scout vertical takeoff and landing tactical unmanned aerial vehicle, which is designed and built by Northrop Grumman Integrated Systems, has completed its first autonomous landing onboard the amphibious platform dock ship USS Nashville on January 16 and 17, 2006, in the Chesapeake Bay. Further, the MQ-8B versions are on way to build up that features a four-blade rotor, increased fuel capacity and payload and weapons capability in addition to electro-optical surveillance sensors.

Huge undersea test in Pacific may follow Giant Shadow
Article Abstract:
A large-scale experiment and the ongoing technological exploration with robotics might yield new undersea capabilities for the Navy. The Silent Hammer experiment, which is a much more sophisticated program than its predecessor Giant Shadow, would employ special operations forces, Marines, and submarines off the West Coast of the United States and in the test ranges of the Western Pacific Ocean in the summer of 2004.

New Carrier Island is at heart of higher sortie rates for CVN21
Article Abstract:
The island, or superstructure, of the Navy's new CVN 21 aircraft carrier is likely to have an improved aircraft sortie rate, a crew that far smaller than that of the Nimitz-class vessels and lower life-cycle costs. Northrop GrummanEs Newport News Operations, Newport News, Virginia, will build the CVN21 and the redesign of its island is the real transformational part of the airport operations on board the carrier.
