Pervasive sensing holds the key to network centric operations
Article Abstract:
Depth and pervasiveness in sensing capability, which means flooding an area with sensors from the sea bed to space that an adversary cannot detect, but that operate well behind their lines gathering information with an up-close-and-personal perspective is reported to make all the difference in managing the challenges of network centric operations. In future, the grid's sensors would be able to communicate over wireless data links, forming a self-correcting, self-calibrating web.

Ohio-class SSGNs: Experimental test beds for future attack subs
Article Abstract:
The Ohio-class guided-missile nuclear-powered submarine (SSGN), which is the US Navy's new submarine platform, performs a dual role for the service's submarine fleet. These boats carry out massive land attack assignments as well as clandestine missions, and they also perform as seagoing test beds for the submarine fleets, operating new technologies and components and testing new tactics for other classes of submarines.

Navy outlines new vision for unmanned underwater vehicles
Article Abstract:
The new version of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) is likely to emphasize their roles as extensions of manned platforms increasing the spheres of influence dominated by submarines and surface warships in littoral operations. Various UUV's carrying diverse payloads can share capabilities and data with each unit in the network and add to their effectiveness.
