French Hawkeye makes its debut
Article Abstract:
Northrop Grumman has launched the first E-2C Hawkeye airborne early warning command and control aircraft for the French Navy, on April 28, 1998. The company is training some 100 French personnel to operate and maintain the E-2C, of which France is acquiring two units under Group II configuration, through a $560-million Foreign Military Sales contract signed in 1995. The two aircraft, which will enter service in 1999 as part of the air group aboard the new carrier Charles de Gaulle, will join VAW-120, the E-2C training unit of the US Navy, prior to their delivery to France in December 1998.

Super Hornet begins operational evaluation
Article Abstract:
The US Navy has launched a six-month operational evaluation (OPEVAL) of the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet to measure the fighter's performance in all mission areas. The OPEVAL will use five production model Super Hornets, which will fly about 700 sorties in all. While 25% bigger than the F/A-18 Hornet, the F/A-18E/F Hornet has about 50% fewer parts. The bigger airframe allows for a bigger internal fuel capacity, resulting in a longer range.
