Article Abstract:
Lt Gen Constantinos Panagiotakis, Chief-of-Staff of the Hellenic Army, said the future role of Western European armies would mainly be humanitarian and peacekeeping operations. Panagiotakis added that the Hellenic Army is moving towards becoming a semi-professional army with greater mobility and flexibility. Its future armament acquisitions would include main battle tanks, wheeled APCs, 5.56mm assault rifles, attack helicopters and advanced communications equipment.
