Article Abstract:
Guided artillery ammunition is a technology area, which though has promised much but has received only limited acceptance. A new generation promises greater range and simpler utilization and possession of a precision engagement capability is considered more than ever, to be vital to maintaining tube artillery's relevance to the modern battlefield.

Rheinmetall making progress with 120mm HE projectiles

The development of 120mm L44 and L55 smoothbore tank guns made by the Rheinmetall WandM is discussed. This 120mm high explosive round is designed to fulfill a range of battlefield tasks where it fills the gap between maximum tank and minimum artillery engagement ranges.
