NATO PDW standardisation: Watershed ahead?
Article Abstract:
The obstacles faced by NATO during the standardization of the new caliber for a Personal Defense Weapon (PDW) are discussed. The standardization of systems is done by NATO so as to ensure interoperability of the material in service in different member states. PDW is intended to provide personal protection and close protection in extreme situations, like an enemy directly endangering the user.
