Navy eyes new kinds of 'connectors' between sea bases, forces ashore
Article Abstract:
Several better capable sea- and airlift-assets or 'connectors' are required for the naval sea basing concept to work as planned and to supply the more mobile, faster forces that will be going ashore. Aluminum catamarans, known as High Speed Vessels, the V-44, a four-propeller variant of the V-22 tiltrotor aircraft capable of lifting a loaded cargo container or heavy fighting vehicle, and the Walrus, a DARPA program for hybrid airship capable of carrying material at high speeds, are some of the innovations that are being considered to improve the sea basing concepts.

Fire control
Article Abstract:
The Navy Integrated Fire Control-Counter Air (NIFC-CA) would deliver fully networked, distributed and long-range defensive fire control and it would help the US forces create a single integrated air picture and foster the ability to push engagement distances beyond the launching platform's radar horizon. This exceptional ability is very useful in maximizing resources in a battle area and put the right shooter on the right target.
