Need for Deepwater rises as CG workload expands
Article Abstract:
The revamping of the ageing fleet of patrol boats, cutters, aircraft, and the systems that support them have become a necessity to provide efficient and effective service, as the Coast Guard's homeland security workload and mulitmission demands have increased. The Coast Guard's high priority missions include maritime homeland security, national defense, search, and rescue.

Naval surface fire support: on target
Article Abstract:
Issues concerning new ships, gun systems and missiles for increased accuracy and range of surface fire support for Marine Corps amphibious operations and joint operations ashore are presented. Some supporters of the Naval Surface Fire Support programs believe that the 16-inch guns of the Iowa-class battleships must be brought back.
