Protecting the seabase
Article Abstract:
Sea shield is responsible for guaranteeing the seabase's persistent presence wherever needed and enabling and protecting the forces operating from or connected to the seabase for as long as necessary. The role of the sea shield is to assure seabasing components to operate for joint expeditionary forces to transit from the seabase to the object and to protect the seabase from ballistic and antiship cruise missiles, submarines, mines and surface craft.

The carrier strike groups (CSGs) and expeditionary (ESGs) are instituted as key components of the global integrated naval force essential to meet rapid response requirements of the defense strategy. The ESG ship composition and how the developing concepts contribute to the global war on terrorism are highlighted.

Aegis cruiser conversion program will add long-range naval fires combat power
Article Abstract:
The United States Navy's cruiser conversion program is aimed to increase the service life and enhance the naval gunfire support capability of the Navy's 27 multimission Aegis cruisers. The first cruiser conversion will begin in year 2006 for the USS Cape St. George (CG 71).
