The emperor has no A3s
Article Abstract:
The M113 vehicle continue to be flexible, lightweight and survivable but, compared to the M1 and Bradley tanks, it has become a legacy vehicle. The problem with the vehicles, which will be deployed with the digitized Division XXI, is that they will not be able to keep up with the improved versions of the other tanks. The solution, converting the M113 to the A3 configuration, is proceeding at such a slow pace that only 4,000 of the 17,000 M113s have been reconfigured as of Feb 1999.

The case for medium-weight army forces
Article Abstract:
The US Army need to support the creation of medium forces to ensure powerful and rapid deployment of forces in the future. The establishment of motorized infantry and light armor formation equipped with excellent strategic and theater mobility is only possible if the Army has many lightweight armor, command and control, and fire support systems. The Army also must tap the extant US Air Force airlift assets in the short term.
