August hot for most automakers
Article Abstract:
Majority of car manufacturers in the US, especially the Japanese, found their sales bolstered in August 1998 by slashing prices on vehicles made in Japan but sold in the country due to a weak yen. Analysts believe that Japanese car manufacturers have found their sales in Japan affected by the Asian financial situation. However, General Motors experienced a fall in US sales to just 21.6% market share in August 1998 compared to 20.8% market share in July 1998. Still, executives at General Motors feel that their sales will improve by October 1998.
