B of M pins hopes on Harris
Article Abstract:
Harris Bankcorp Inc, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bank of Montreal has posted a profit of $207 million in 1998. Since it was acquired by Bank of Montreal in 1989, Harris has tripled its branches to 130, tripled its profit to around C$300 million annually and boosted its return on equity from 12.7% to more than 15%. The company has reduced C$80 million from its expenses since 1994, is planning to cut another C$20 million in 1999.
