BC Tel, Telus strike merger deal
Article Abstract:
BC Telecom Inc., a Burnaby, British Columbia based regional telephone company, and Telus Corp., also a regional telephone firm based in Edmonton, Alberta, have reached an agreement to merge their operations, creating a new entity called BCT. Telus Communications Inc. Terms of deal allows BC Telecom shareholders to swap each of the BC Telecom share they currently own for one new share of BCT.Telus while Telus shareholders are entitled to get 0.7773 of a share in the merged company for every Telus share they own. BCT.Telus, which is expected to have assets of C$8 billion and 25,000 employees, will be headquartered in Burnaby.

Telesat to bid for Brazil's satellite parking spot
Article Abstract:
Telesat Canada is competing with three other bidders for one of Brazil's unused communication satellite orbital slot. Brazil has been provided by the International Communication Union with orbital parking spots at 37,000 km above the equator. Telesat intends to use the orbital slot for a new satellite to cover the entire South America by the end of 2002.
