CanWest closes scaled-down Hollinger deal

Winnipeg, Ont.-based CanWest Global Communications Corp. has reduced its acquisition costs for Toronto, Ont.-based Hollinger Inc. from $3.5 billion to $3.2 billion. The deal, which includes the sale of 14 major daily newspapers owned by Hollinger, will transform CanWest into a leading media company in Canada.
