Article Abstract:
The United States Commerce Department has proposed to slash the duties on Canadian soft wood lumber to an average of 13.2 percent from 27.2 percent in June 2004. The Ottawa and the Canadian industry have railed the United States decision, which would smooth the way for a settlement although the US lumbar interests would continue to make the dispute a protected one.
