Cobequid puts faith in DNA vaccine
Article Abstract:
Qiagen GmbH, headquartered in Germany, has sold the rights to patents for five DNA vaccines for aquaculture to Cobequid Life Sciences Inc. of Richmond Hill, Ontario, for an undisclosed amount. The purchase will allow Cobequid to develop and market the vaccines under the supervision of its new unit, Progressive Genetics Systems Inc. The deal will also allow the company to enhance its financial performance, according to Gerri Greenham, the firm's president. The aquaculture DNA vaccines makes use of genetic coding to protect the host from diseases.

Biovail snags U.S. firm in cash and stock deal
Article Abstract:
Biovail Corporation International reached a $154 million cash and stock agreement to purchase Fuisz Technologies Ltd of Chantilly, VA. The acquisition will enhance Biovail's research and development staff, budget and product holdings. Fuisz makes rapidly dissolving oral drugs, similar to Biovail's controlled-release pharmaceuticals. Both companies' board of directors have approved the consolidation.
