Prices of wine have reduced as retail chains threaten established brands with cheap offerings, while challenges from New World producers in Chile, California and South Africa are eating into Australia's export growth. Wine-makers are canceling contracts, and boutique wineries are closed to get the industry back in form and chief executive of McGuigan Simeon Wines describes conditions as those not seen in 46 years of his business but is optimistic that the worst is over and things would be better.

50 hot companies: The get rich list
Article Abstract:
An 2005 annual survey to determine the 50 best performing companies indicated that there a number of energy and resource companies to be the top runners. Some of the names, which emerged big in the survey, included department store retailer David Jones, natural medicines maker Blackmores, shipbuilder Austal, Commonwealth Bank, Mortgage Choice and QBE Insurance.
