Day-trading firm All-Tech accused of breaking rules

All-Tech Direct of Montvale, NJ, has been named in a complaint filed by the National Assn of Securities Dealers on Jul 17, 2000. The complaint cites the owner of the day-trading firm for not being registered to work in the industry and for hiring a branch manager who has been banned from the securities industry. All-Tech Chmn and CEO Harvey Houtkin, considered as the father of day-trading, has also been cited for making exaggerated and misleading statements on the firm's ads and Web site.

Merrill Lynch sends grads to college
Article Abstract:
Merrill Lynch and Company Inc will follow through with a promise made in 1988 to 251 first-graders from the nation's worst inner-city schools. The promise, to pay for their college education if they finish high school, will be made through the investment banking company's ScholarshipBuilder program. A total of 146 youths out of nearly 200 of the original first- graders, are set to begin their college education in fall 2000.
