Efficacy of smoking cessation intervention among special populations: Review of the literature from 2000 to 2005
Article Abstract:
The distinct requirements and considerations related to smoking cessation interventions in special populations categorized as women, older adults, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender smokers, smokers with psychiatric diagnoses, smokers addicted to illicit drugs, alcohol, or both, American Indians, Alaska natives, African Americans, Hispanics, and Asian Americans are evaluated. It is revealed that the available data on smoking cessation randomized clinical trials for efficacy and other research is still insufficient.

Translating smoking cessation research findings into clinical practice: The "Staying Free" program
Article Abstract:
A research-based smoking cessation model, the 'Staying Free' program, for hospitalized smokers accompanied by follow-up offered through telephonic contacts after discharge in the US and Canada, moved from dissemination and into clinical practice settings is discussed. The experience from the dissemination of the program presents a systematic approach for executing similar projects into smoking intervention, training and framing policies for treatment of hospitalized smokers.

A randomized controlled trial of a smoking cessation intervention for pregnant adolescents
Article Abstract:
Pregnant adolescent smokers represent a substantial rate of smoking female population and clear evidence shows the detrimental effects of smoking during pregnancy on fetal growth, development, and survival. Three treatment groups, Teen FreshStart (TFS), Teen FreshStart Plus Buddy (TFS-B), and Usual Care (UC) control were evaluated for the short and long-term effects of smoking cessation strategies tailored to the pregnant adolescent to attain and maintain abstinence.
