Data and safety monitoring during randomized controlled trails of nursing interventions
Article Abstract:
The study aims to define the purpose of a data and safety monitoring board (DSMB), to describe the functions of a DSMB and distinguish them from the activities of an institutional review board, and to discuss the development and implementation of a DSMB plan. It concluded that the role of the DSMB is crucial and offers independent evaluation to ensure participant safety and good science.

Methods to optimize recruitment and retention to an exercise study in Chinese immigrants
Article Abstract:
A multidimensional approach is used to develop and ensure optimum recruitment and retention strategies with Chinese immigrants in a Tai Chi exercise study. The analysis reveals that several factors on several different levels that include participants, study investigator, as well as the community-based agency, have led to the successful recruitment of such immigrants in the study.
