It is time for golf, not politics
Article Abstract:
Prime Minister Jean Chretien would be wise to play more golf in summer 1997 and avoid taking dramatic action to prove that he is in charge. The country's economy is improving and the Bloc Quebecois are too divided internally to cause problems for the rest of the country.

Chretien will not support greater autonomy for Quebec other than to back the proposal to recognize the province as a 'distinct society.' His desire to avoid risking his popularity will not end the sovereignty movement, but it could result in the loss of Quebec.
