In-flight cellphone ban is debated
Article Abstract:
The use of cellular phones during flights should continue to be prohibited, according to witnesses who testified at a hearing conducted by the House Aviation Subcommittee. One of the witnesses, David Watrous, president of an advisory group that has studied the use of electronic devices, said signals emitted by cellular phones pose unacceptable risks to aircraft. On the other hand, FAA official Thomas McSweeney said anecdotal evidence from pilots say electronic devices have interfered with their ability to fly.

Rules can lead pilots to hide distress
Article Abstract:
International air transportation rules forbid commercial pilots from being certified to fly unless they are deemed psychologically fit by a doctor. This rule is apparently difficult to enforce as pilots, to avoid being grounded, would likely conceal psychological problems rather than seek treatment that can last months and sometimes even years. Even the FAA, pilots union and psychologists knows exactly how many pilots suffer frpm debilitating mental conditions
