Little Rock airport criticized for slow emergency response
Article Abstract:
Little Rock National Airport has been criticized by National Transportation Safety Board Chairman James Hall for its slow response in an emergency situation at the airport on Jun 1, 1999. Survivors of the crash were made to wait 19 minutes amid burning wreckage before being rescued due to the absence of a mandatory system to guide rescue workers to an emergency at the airport.

FAA wants nitrogen in jet fuel tanks to prevent explosions
Article Abstract:
The Federal Aviation Administration plans to require a shot of nitrogen, a non-flammable gas, in jet fuel tanks to prevent explosions. It will formally issue a request asking an industry advisory group to start drafting rules to require use of nitrogen. The requirement has been fueled by the crash of TWA Flight 800 in 1996 which was caused by a fiery midair breakup of the jet and caused the deaths of all 230 people on board.

Safety, on-time travel on collision course, pilots say
Article Abstract:
The Air Line Pilots Association has commented that federal regulators should address safety concerns in some airports in the next few months as its pilots will refuse to use the current procedures for intersecting runways in clogged airports. The union, which represents 51,000 of the 70,000 commercial pilots in the US and Canada, cited such incidents as in Chicago, IL, in their request for the FAA to look into the safety of several airports. The increase of commercial flights in airports has been a way of boosting traffic but it has also become one of the most controversial in safety issues in airports.
