SEC: don't chase fund performance
Article Abstract:
Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Arthur Levitt warned investors not to be lured by mutual funds that reported 1999 gains of more than 100%. Levitt said that such gains will not probably be seen in 2000 and advised investors to look for funds that would satisfy their long-term goals. The official also said that funds touting their strong improvement could be posing a danger to most investors, who have not experienced a true bear market.
