FCC may deal regional Bells a victory today
Article Abstract:
The Federal Communications Commission is scheduled to vote on a set of rules that could make it more difficult for long-distance companies to compete with regional Bell companies in the high-speed Internet service market. The FCC's staff has recommended a rule that would not force the local-telephone monopolies to give deep discounts to long-distance providers who want to use the Bells' high-speed Internet networks. The Bells insist that it would be unfair to give discounts because they have invested huge amounts to develop the networks.
