Aqueloic Canada Ltd of Calgary, Alberta, is marketing a technology for controlling water flow in oil wells. The company's patented polymer solution Direxit is applied to oil wells as a liquid and hardens into a tough molassses-colored gel. The chemical proprties of the product are designed to seek out and close water channels with blocking off the oil. Aqueolic's services can cost from C$5,000 from tackling gas migration, to $15,000 for shutting off water in an oil well.

Restoration brings nostalgia northward

Restoration Hardware Inc operates a chain of hardware and home decor stores that offers a wide range of merchandise in elegant and nostalgic atmosphere. The company has 65 stores in the US and recently opened its first Canadian branch in Vancouver. It opened 25 new stores in 1998 and will open 30 more in 1999. Restoration is projecting a profit of $5 million on sales of $200 million in FY98, from $1.5 million on $97.9 million in FY97.
