Flight attendants demand tougher rules to fight air rage

Flight attendants on Jul 6, 2000, will demand to governments worldwide stricter rules against disruptive passengers. According to flight attendant unions, passenger air rage often distract pilots and could threaten safety. In 1999, airlines sent the Federal Aviation Administration 178 cases of assaults as well as threats, intimidation and interference with a flight crew. The Interenational Transport Workers' Federation asks governments to let courts prosecute foreign travelers arriving on international flights.

A number of scheduled airlines have added online travel-management to the services they are presently offering. The move, which include allowing businesses to track their expenditures with the airline, is aimed at increasing the number of airline ticket bookings that are done through Web sites. Some of the airlines and their online services include Delta Air Lines' Mind Your Own Business Travel, Southwest Airlines' Swabiz and EasyBiz from Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines.

Small airlines think big to attract fliers

Small airlines are offering several perks to attract more passengers. These include complimentary liquor, a first-class section and glass- enclosed walkways. For instance, Midwest Express Airlines Inc will put up a 4,600-sq-ft business club at its Milwaukee, WI, hub by the middle of 2000. Fliers will be charged a fee for use of the hub, with different membership plans. Midway Airlines Inc of Durham, NC, offers all fliers with leather seats and hot towels.
