Struggling Planet Hollywood falls from orbit

Planet Hollywood has filed for bankruptcy protection, a victim of overexpansion and too much diversification, said Robert Earl, the CEO of the movie-theme restaurant chain. The company, which became famous for its celebrity investors Demi Moore, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, is closing nine of its 32 restaurants in the US. In its bankruptcy filing, the company listed debts of $359.1 million and assets of $392.2 million.

Heating costs hit wallets hard

Consumers throughout the US have been hard hit by the high increases in their heating utility bills. To cope with the increases in heating expenses, consumers have lowered the heating levels of their homes, elicited the help of energy assistance groups and resorted to buying warmer clothing. According to the Dept of Energy's Information Agency, heating bills will be 50% higher compared to last year.
