Summer gas prices could hit $2.50 a gallon in some areas

Gasoline prices in some areas of the US might reach $2.50 a gallon in summer 2001. The increase in gasoline prices are expected to be greatly felt in cities such as Sacramento, CA, San Diego, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Dallas, TX, Houston, TX, St. Louis, MO, Chicago, IL, and Milwaukee, WI. These areas, which accounts for one-third of US gasoline consumption, are required to use a mixture of reformulated gasoline by Jun 1, 2001, in order to comply with federal requirements for clean air.

About half of U.S. households play the market
Article Abstract:
Nearly half of US households, or 49.2 million households, own stock, according to a survey released by the Securities Industry Association and the Investment Company Institute. A survey conducted in 1995 by the New York Stock Exchange indicated that 41.1% of US households held stock. The increase in number of households owning stock comes at a time when stock prices are soaring and more people are planning for retirement.
