Global recovery flows on capital tide
Article Abstract:
Japan can recover from the 1997-98 economic crisis by relying on rationalization and downsizing. US Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan led the effort to lower global interest rates, and the announcement that Japan's economy grew by 1.9% may suggest it is in the early stages of recovery. Much of Japan's and Europe's capital has flowed to US Treasury bonds and Wall Street equities, creating significant prosperity for the US.

Australia should decide if it wants to take the globalisation route to the next level and allow companies to outsource IT work to India. Australia has been spared some of the negative effects of globalisation because a large portion of its workers are in the service sector. Australian business may have to send work abroad in order to stay competitive in the global economy.

According to a report by The Economist, the economic condition of East Asia and Australia is closely connected to China's economy. The risk of collateral damage from slowdown of China's economy is important and forecasting the timing and magnitude of any change in the Australian economic climate is impossible.
