Under Eye of U.N., Billions for Hussein In Oil-for-Food Plan
Article Abstract:
Saddam Hussein skimmed billions of dollars from the United Nations' oil-for-food program, while illicitly trading oil and collecting kickbacks from companies that were authorized by the U.N. to do business with Iraq during the time Iraq was under sanctions. The fraud was an open secret among officials and diplomats at the U.N., but competing interests and agendas of the 15 Security Council member countries, who also comprised the sanctions committee, effectively paralyzed them.
