The local federal Member of Parliament, Julia Gillard stands a better chance of becoming a political leader of Australian Labor Party (ALP) as she has been a factional player for over 20 years. However, she is forced to deal with allegations that she tried to switch factions to improve her leadership hopes and that more than a decade ago, a former lover spent AWU funds to renovate her Victorian house.
