Honeywell hopes for miracle on GE deal
Article Abstract:
Honeywell said it expects General Electric (GE) would do everything possible to ensure that the $42-billion merger between the two companies would be approved by EU regulators. GE has already offered to sell Honeywell's avionics business as a concession to EU authorities, who are very much concerned with GE's dominance in the jet-engine market. GE also has offered to create a separate management for Capital Aviation Services, GE's powerful aircraft and leasing arm, but the EU wants a total spinoff.

GE's big deal to buy Honeywell looks dead
Article Abstract:
General Electric Co (GE)'s proposed acquisition of Honeywell International for $41 billion appears dead as GE CEO Jack Welch balked at European regulators' demands. As the deadline passed, GE still had not reached an agreement with the EU Commission on Competition over what parts of the merged entity would have to be spun off or sold to pass muster with the EU. The EU Commission will not render its final decision until Jul 2001.
