In Philadelphia, Southwest Is Trying The Front Door

Southwest Airlines is planning to launch service at Philadelphia International Airport, the fourth largest air travel market in the US. Despite US Airways' intention to sell its Philadelphia operation at the airport, the airline will offer cheaper flights to remain competitive with South west. Other airlines, such as Continental, American and United, are concerned about Southwest's threat to keeping their customers in a region where customers welcome low-fare opportunities.

Judge Gives US Airways Authority to Cut Union Pay
Article Abstract:
The bankrupt US Airways has been granted the right to cut employee salaries in order to avoid liquidation, and United Airlines has announced that it would also ask a bankruptcy judge to allow it to make similar cuts.
