Industrial-Alliance boss to resign next year

Industrial-Alliance Life Insurance Co. of Sillery, Quebec, has named vice-president Yvan Charest to succeed Raymond Garneau as president, effective Mar. 29, 1999. Garneau, the company's chairman, president and CEO, is planning to step down as CEO at the company's annual meeting in the year 2000. Garneau will remain as chairman of Industrial-Alliance. The company posted profits of C$70 million and assets of C$12 billion in 1998.

Sun Life appoints new head of Canadian operations

Toronto, Ontario-based mutual life insurer Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada has announced the appointment of Marcel Gringas as the new head of its Canadian operations. Gringas will replace Lee Wathchorn as senior vice-president and general manager for Canada. Watchorn will shift to head office as senior vice-president for strategic development.
