Inex snapped up by U.S. company

InfoSpace.com Inc of Redmond, WA, has announced its acquisition of Inex Corp of Toronto, Ontario, for $37.1 million in stock, or 900,000 shares of its stock. The deal would allow InfosSpace.com to add Inex's electronic commerce software to the package of content and services that it sells to Web sites. In return, Inex will gain access to InfoSpace.com's customer base of more than 900 companies, as well as access to capital.

Takeover speculation boosts Bid.Com

The shares of online auction house Bid.Com International Inc. of Toronto, Canada, continued to surge amidst rumors that the company may be acquired by Ebay Inc. of San Jose, CA. The stock has more than tripled so far in 1999. Ebay is one of the most spectacular among Internet stocks, with its share soaring nearly 25-fold from its IPO price of $18 to $436 (on a pre-split basis), at a price-earnings ratio of 3,115.
