Labor unions' future: Married to the mob?
Article Abstract:
Federal authorities report that the union and mob bosses often team up to demand illegal payments from union members in return for prune assignments and crime families are known to demand money from contractors in exchange for labor peace. The federal government and the Justice Department remedied the situation involving the unions and in time, took over those unions that were found to be corrupt due to their connection with families of organized crime.

Labor unions' future: Student activists fight for workers' rights
Article Abstract:
Student activists in American universities have begun to team up with unions and non-profit organizations from March 2005 to prevent exploitation of the low-level workers by the universities. They firmly believe that the youngsters must be made to realize the importance of unions and the benefits that can be obtained by involvement, however, the number of students who will still be part of it after leaving the university is an uncertain.
